2014 in a nutshell

2014 was such a interesting year for the Scott household.  First of all, we were coming off a crazy busy and fun year of 2013.  Click here to see that year in review.  A lot of moving, a lot of change.

2014, however, was not like the previous year at all.  We started the year in a new city. I struggled to find a job as I awaited the beginning of PA school.  Colby started his new job in January.  So from January to June.. I was a house wife who was overwhelmingly grateful for Netflix.  I didn't blog much because I was so embarrassed I couldn't find a job to entertain me for 6 months (and contribute the grocery bill). So,  I just kind of went into hiding in the blog world... my bad.

Then PA school started in June.  And who knew you drink from a fire hydrant?  From June to December, I was learning information a mile a minute and life was essentially the same every day.  Colby and I got up at the same time.  We went to bed at the same time.  Colby has an hour commute one way and mine is 45 minutes.  When we got home, I cooked supper and then went into my little study area until we were both ready for bed.  We didn't pursue other relationships really because when we actually had a second to spare... we wanted to spend it with each other.  And we wouldn't have it any other way.  Its been such a giant, giant, giant blessing to be put in situations to focus on just us and our marriage.. setting the foundation for forever.

This past year also provided us the opportunity to travel a little bit.  We celebrated one year of marriage on the east coast of North Carolina and have made a couple trips to the mountains of North Carolina throughout the fall and winter.

Some notable things that happened this year include:  we got a new nephew (May), I had foot surgery (February) and started PA school (June), my cousin got engaged and married (October), Colby got heavy into wood working (built Christmas gifts, a new coffee table, end table, kitchen hutch and serving tray for us!! IN.CRED.I.BLE) and Colby also started working for his old company (January) and got promoted on December 31st (!!)

I want to get back on the blogging train because I enjoy sharing my heart.  I enjoy bragging on my husband.  I enjoy recording my life.  However, I'm gonna keep showing myself grace in this department as school trumps this little space on the internet for now.  However, I hope to pull out my Canon more this year.  Taking and recording more pictures.. even if its just everyday life.

As we enter 2015 we are pumped.  Our family has decided on the words "obey and seek wisdom" to be the ones we pursue in the next year.  Blog post on that soon -- with pictures of the print I ordered!

I am personally making some changes in the way I handle stress this year.  I have not handled stress appropriately within the past 6 months and I am so desperate for a change.  So this is a huge goal for me.  Ask my parents, Colby, and even my college roommates.  This change is an absolute must.  Cheers to more worship music and ellipticals.

Happy 2015, folks! I hope you make heart-felt resolutions and find good people to help you stick to them!

To you, Mr Scott

Sending a little love out for the husband today!

I am so incredibly proud of Colby.  He started his new job today.  He worked for this company back when I was in college, but quit to join the family business - just before we got married.  A couple months of getting into the swing of things back at home, his old boss gave him a call and wanted to know if he would like to come back.

For my homebody husband, moving was a huge deal.  For my family man husband, leaving the family business was a huge deal.  But Colby felt the Lord moving in our situation.  So we decided to pack up as a family and move so he could pursue a different career path.

I am so incredibly encouraged by his boldness and willingness to surrender his own plans.  We prayed this over Colby this morning, "For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do". (Ephesians 2:10)  And we rest in the fact that The Lord has planned and prepared us for this.

Oh happy day, Samuel Colby.  I am so proud of you.  A gorgeous steak supper awaits your arrival!

A Year in Review | 2013

Oh my my.  What a year 2013 was!  Is it hard to imagine that a single year could be this eventful.  How did we get here?  Oh, well let's just have a little review of our past year.

But first, go grab yourself a cup of coffee!

Remember, Colby & I started 2013 like this:

Whew!  Don't that make ya'll wanna take a nap?!

It is truly amazing all that can happen in a single year.  We are so incredibly blessed to have life and life to the full through Jesus.  After all he is the one that is guiding us in the crazy life.  Life to the full for us, for this season of our lives, has consisted of late nights, early mornings, cardboard boxes, tissue paper, pots and pots of coffee, family, laughing, food and pure joy.

Oh, 2014, you have incredibly big shoes to fill.

A New Plan

Oh, hi there.  My name is Courtney, writer of this blog.  You probably don't recognize me because I haven't posted in my little corner of the web in almost two months.  I'm sorry, friends.

Well, Colby and I were about to sign the papers to buy Colby's grandpa's house.  We adore this sweet little house.  It is where Colby's dad and his siblings were raised and it has a ball field literally in the back yard (be still MY heart!).  For several reasons, we adore this house.  And this house fell perfectly into the plan, the master plan of staying in Surry County forever.

But then the government shut down.  During this shut down when our loan to buy this house was at a standstill, Colby got a job offer.. not in Surry County but back in Raleigh.  I didn't take Colby seriously when he told me over the phone.  I believe the actual conversation that went on in my head was like this:  "Hm, interesting. Doesn't matter, Colby Scott ain't going anywhere".  So, when Colby came home and said, "So I think we need to talk about this job opportunity", I WAS FLOORED.  Through several days of very specific praying and beating a dead horse with the exact same conversation with every member of our family... we decided that we were gonna take it.  This meant picking up our Surry County lives and moving them back to Raleigh... in less than 2 months.

So that's the first thing.  Colby got a job offer back in Raleigh.  And he is taking it.
Second thing, I can officially say that I am going to be a Physician Assistant.  I got accepted into my dream school, Wake Forest School of Medicine, about 2 weeks ago.  I am still on cloud nine.  When the representative told me I literally screamed on the phone.  I was over the moon, y'all.  I can't wait to write a post about the crazy process it took to get that glorious phone call.  Halloween was a good day for this future Demon Deacon.

So second thing,  I am going to be a Demon Deacon AND a Physician Assistant.

So, here we are.  Colby and I are moving in less than 2 months to Burlington, the sweet little city that we will call home for now.  Colby starts a brand new job at the beginning of the year and I start a rigorous curriculum in June.   Life is insane and beautiful and intense and scary.  But we have Jesus, so faint not.

And as excited as I am for the changes in our little family, I don't want to be blinded by all them all.  There are still pumpkin pies to eaten, boots to be worn, twinkling lights to be hung and evergreens to be inhaled all before we hit the road.  Cheers to the best time of year, right where we are.
